Section 8 Department created in 1976, has enabled City of Pittsburgh residents to lease from private landlords with rental assistance provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and administered by the Housing Authority City of using Authority City of Pittsburgh.  Currently staffed by 29 full-time employees, the Section 8 Department in 2006 serviced over 6,000 low-income families in its project-based and tenant-based housing assistance programs. 

                     

         

       The Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh is no longer accepting applications for
       the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program due to limited funding availability and an
       already extensive waiting list. At this time, the HACP is unable to predict when the Section 8
       Waiting List will be re-opened. When we are able to accept applications, HACP will make
       an announcement in newspapers of general circulation.
